Whether you are a travel agency, school, corporate group, or a party of friends, we offer a range of group programs at the historic Mokubakan Theater in Asakusa. All bookings are arranged by inquiry: simply send us your request, and we will confirm availability and reply with a personalized quotation and invoice.

Guided Group Program with Performer Meet & Greet

Taishu Engeki Dance and Theatre Workshop Experience (with Show Tickets)

This hands-on program lets your group step into the world of Taishu Engeki. Dressed in kimono, you will learn dance movements directly from a real, performing actor, using real fans and swords. Finish the experience by watching the Taishu Engeki show at the Mokubakan. English translation and explanation is provided.

Duration: 2.5 – 3 hours

Group Size: Minimum 5 guests*

What’s included:
– Kimono dressing;
– Dance lesson taught by professional Taishu Engeki actor;
– Use of Japanese traditional props (katana, sensu fan);

– Program without Kimono (reduced price);

*Extra Information:
– Groups smaller than 5 are welcome. The program can be booked at the 5-guest minimum rate;
– Additional costs apply for groups larger than 11;
– This program can also be held at a location of your choice within Japan (additional costs may apply).

Stage Makeup Workshop

Transform yourself with authentic Taishu Engeki stage makeup, using professional tools. Guided by professional actors, you will experience the traditional white-face (shironuri) and dramatic line (kumadori) makeup techniques worn on stage, applied with the same professional-grade tools the actors themselves use. A rare chance to see, feel, and wear the artistry behind the performance.

Duration: 1 – 2 hours

Group Size: 5 – 20 guests

Pricing: Per-person rate – quoted upon inquiry

What’s included:
– Hands-on stage makeup experience with professional-grade tools;
– Instruction and demonstration by a professional Taishu Engeki actor;
– Solo performance by an actor (groups of 10 or more).

Options (upon request):
– 30-minute time extension;
– Commemorative photo session;
– Private (exclusive) session for groups under 10 people.

Prefer to watch rather than participate? Our Makeup Show lets you observe an actor applying full stage makeup up close, with a Q&A session and individual performances. Please mention this in your inquiry if interested.

Reserve the Mokubakan Theater in Asakusa for a private performance by a full Taishu Engeki troupe. Your group will enjoy a spectacular 45-minute dance show, followed by a photo session on stage with the performers — dazzling costumes, dynamic choreography, and an atmosphere you can only find in Japan’s popular theater tradition.

Duration: 60 minutes (45-min show + photo session; extended program available upon request).

Pricing: Per-person rate – quoted upon inquiry

Venue: Mokubakan Theatre, Asakusa 
(2-7-5 Asakusa, Taito-ku, Tokyo).

What’s included:
– Private 45-minute dance performance by the troupe;
– One complimentary drink per guest (alcohol available);
– Photo & video recording permitted;
– Photo session on stage with the performers (props such as katana, fans available);
– A small souvenir for each guest.

Available time slots:
– Afternoon: 15:30 – 17:00
– Evening: 21:30 – 23:00 (extra surcharge applies)

Performances outside these time slots may also be available. An additional venue-buyout service charge applies. Details will be included in your quotation.

Good to know:
– Groups smaller than 30 people can still book. The show will simply be charged at the 30-guest rate.
– Catering or Japanese bento-style dining during the show can be arranged for large groups. Please let us know your budget and preferences.
– Our sister venue, Shinohara Engeijo in Jujo (2-17-6 Naka-Jujo, Kika-ku, Tokyo) offers large bus parking and is also available for private shows.

How to book?

All group programs are booked by inquiry, and all pricing is provided as a personalized quotation based on your group size, program, and requests. Here is how it works:

  1. Send us an inquiry using the form below, including your preferred program, date(s), group size, and any other requests
  2. We confirm availability and reply with a detailed proposal and quotation.
  3. We send you an invoice once the details are confirmed. Your booking is secured upon payment.
  4. Enjoy your experience! We will send you all meeting details and a day-of schedule in advance.

General Terms

  • All quotations are exclusive of tax. Japanese consumption tax (10%) will be added to the total fee.
  • If your group is below the minimum number of participants for a program, the booking is still possible at the minimum-participant rate.
  • Depending on the program, group size, and timeslot, a venue buyout fee or facility charge may apply. Any applicable fees will be clearly itemized in your quotation.
  • Programs can also be arranged at other locations within Japan. Transportation and accomodation costs may apply. Please contact us and we will do our best to work within your budget.

Cancellation Policy

  • Up to 90 days before: no charge
  • 60 days before: 20% fee
  • 59 – 30 days before: 50% fee
  • 29 – 15 days before: 70% fee
  • 14 – 7 days before: 80% fee
  • 6 days before: 100% fee

– Cancellation fees apply to the total of the program fee, options, and any confirmed expenses (venue fees, arranged transportation/accomodation, etc.)
– Please contact us as soon as possible in case of cancellation or a reduction in group size.
– For large-scale bookings (theatre buyouts/ MICE, etc.) where venues and performers have already been arranged, actual incurred costs may be charged regardless of the above schedule.
– If the program cannot be held due to circumstances beyond our control (natural disasters, epidemics, etc.) the cancellation fee will be decided through consultation.
