Miyako Wakamaru Gekidan is a multi-generational Taishu Engeki theatre group founded in 2001 originally in the Kanto region. Current leader, Miyako Wakamaru, inherited the group at age 20 from his father Miyako Joutarou.

The group’s identity is built around the life and career of leader, Miyako Wakamaru, who has been performing since he was 2 years old in 1982. Miyako-san also has a music career under the name “Tokio”, releasing his debut single “Meritto” in August 2001. In 2002, the Troupe achieved the #1 nationwide audience attendance in Taishu Engeki, a major milestone for Miyako-san and his group.

It is extremely popular for its freshness and brightness. The driving force behind their sustained popularity is not only the existence of lifelong loyal fans, but also the thorough professionalism  of Miyako-san and his dedicated group members that pursue greatness.
